We are now re-named "Victor & Catherine Briggs Foundation" (Previous name: Victor Briggs Foundation)
The food assistance program is a precursor to the food bank initiative and is conducted under the auspices of the Lilian Emem Center For Hunger Alleviation, Food Security and Sustainability. The program provides food and cash support to economically vulnerable households and individuals within specific communities and groups as recommended by our community partners.
Community Partners
FAP is conducted with the support of community organizations, and sometimes as official partnerships with these organizations. Our community partners are community-centric organizations that empower, serve the concerns of, and improve the quality of life of members within their communities. Community partners help us identify the most vulnerable households and individuals within their communities and offer recommendation for the Food Assistance Program.
For the purposes of FAP, we consider the following eligible as community organizations: faith-based organizations and faith-based groups, religious organizations, grass-root organizations and initiatives, charity groups, charity initiatives and organizations, peer group networks, and other community-centric non-profits and NGOs.
Applying to FAP
Recipients of the Food Assistance Program are usually nominated by our community partners and VCBF associates. Under exceptional circumstances, an individual or household may be considered for FAP without an official nomination.
Emergency Food Assistance Program, E-FAP
The Lilian Emem Center for Hunger Alleviation, Food Security and Sustainability is working on a program where families and individuals undergoing severe hunger crisis of a momentary nature or induced by extenuating circumstances, can be able to apply to receive emergency food assistance, typically within 24 hours.
The E-FAP provided may be a one-time assistance or recurring on a monthly or bi-weekly basis, for a definite period of time. Extenuating circumstances may include: loss of employment, bereavement or demise of benefactor, victim of financial crime, natural disaster and acts of God etc. The E-FAP will be a very limited program, before applicants will be considered, there must be demonstrable evidence of an imminent hunger crisis either induced by extenuating circumstances or by an extreme but temporary financial hardship.
Applying to E-FAP will require the recommendation from a community organization, which may or may not be an official community partner of the program. For the purposes of E-FAP, we consider the following eligible as community organizations: faith-based organizations and faith-based groups, religious organizations, grass-root organizations and initiatives, charity groups, charity initiatives and organizations, peer group networks, and other community-centric non-profits and NGOs.
